Marketing Your Business on Linkedin – 5 Top Tips

What is Linkedin?

It’s a social networking platform tha is designed to make it easier for business owners, managers and professionals to network, build their brand, demonstrate their expertise, keep informed, provoke discussion and grow your business.

Why Bother With Linkedin?

I joined Linkedin a few years ago because I was told that it would make my website rank higher on Google because Linkedin is an ‘aurthority’ site.

Well I don’t know if that is still true but I’ve discovered there are lots of other good reasons to be there. Here are some:

  • It’s a great directory of the world’s decision makers. According to Linkedin Ads 50% of members are in a decision maker role – so it’s likely that your dream prospects are on it. After all, according to Linkedin, 1 new member joins every second.
  • According to Performics 59% of active Social Media users choose Linkedin as their number one platform
  • Through joining groups you can demonstrate your expertise and stay top of mind with prospects by answering questions and posting useful information and articles. It’s more subtle, effective and enjoyable than cold calling them and delivering sales pitches
  • You can follow up with prospects in a ‘warm’ way by mentioning that you have been ‘chatting’ on Linkedin and thought it would be better if you spoke in person…..
  • It’s a great research tool to help you target your market activities towards certain industries, role levels and influencers within companies
  • You can build up your brand

Here are 5 Top Tips for Maximising Your Profile on Linkedin

1. Include your full name and a professional image – one that you’d be happy if it were seen by your dream client! Profiles without an image of the person are off putting

2. Include a benefit-laden professional headline that can easily be found by Linkedin’s search tool. Avoid just putting your current position e.g. Managing Director of The Accountability Club. Instead put Managing Director of The Accountability Club – I help business owners grow their business by 33%+ in 6 months.

3. Set a target to add a certain number of connections each month

4. Set a target to gather a certain number of recommendations each month – these will give your connections (prospects and referral partners) something impressive to read about you and increase your chances of winning referrals from the site!

5 Customise your website URLs. Instead of leaving the link to your website saying ‘company website’, change it to something that gives people an incentive to visit .e.g. FREE 21 Ways to Add an Extra £25k to £100k to Your Business or Free Website Health Check.

So,, what are you going to do this week to make your Linkedin profile a business winning entry?

Have a great week in business,

Warm wishes

Madeleine and Tim

How to Stop Procrastinating – 7 Tips for Business Owners

 7 Level Procrastination Buster

Have you got something on your To Do list that you’re procrastinating about? We all have times when we procrastinate about something.

There’s a Spanish proverb that says: “Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week”

Sometimes it’s good to procrastinate because circumstances change and the need to complete a task actually goes away.

Most of the time, it’s not good for you, your business or your team when you procrastinate. There are at least 3 reasons why:

1.    Firstly, you can’t feel proud of yourself when you know there are important tasks to complete that you’re just avoiding. And… however much you try to distract yourself, it’s there taking up brain space and attention units – just like it was when you were a kid putting off your homework and you chosing to go out and play instead! It was hard to fully enjoy that distraction.

2.    Secondly, you may waste energy and focus on beating yourself up about it. Perhaps you even call yourself ‘Lazy’. In this session today I’m going to show you how thinking of yourself as ‘Lazy’ is lazy thinking!

3.    If the task is important, not doing it is dooming your business or your career to staying the way it is.

Many time management and anti-procrastination books have great tips for what to DO, for instance, ‘just take the first step’. But if it was that easy you’d probably have done it already!

Our greatest confusion often comes around the fact that we know what we should do and we’re still not doing it – even when we know we’d get a great benefit if we did.

So here are 7 valuable tips to help you understand why you procrastinate and how you can stop procrastinating.

Tip 1 is related to the item or GOAL on your To Do list.

  1. How SMART is this thing on your list? SMART is an acronym where the
    1. S stands for Specific – It’s the difference between saying ‘make sales calls’ and ‘make 5 sales calls’. You need a clear target to be able to hit it
    2. M stands for Measurable    – What will you see, feel and hear when you achieve it? It’s much easier to measure if it’s Specific in the first place. You know when you’ve made 5 calls.
    3. A stands for Achievable – Is it possible to achieve? You may be able to answer that better when you’ve heard the other 6 tips. Is it actually a project rather than a task – is it too big a chunk to have on your To Do List?
    4. R stands for Relevant – Is it important to you? What benefits are there to getting it done? If you don’t feel it’s important you’re less likely to do it.
    5. T stands for Timed – When have you got to get it done by? Having a realistic deadline on it can make it more motivating to complete.

If the task isn’t SMART it’s easy to procrastinate about it.

Tip 2 relates to YOU
  1. Is the To Do item on your list a task that someone like you would naturally do or be good at?
For instance, are you a PEOPLE PERSON who enjoys people related tasks like networking but who puts off routine admin tasks like putting your contacts into a database? Or are you a ROUTINE TASK person who feels shy meeting new people and puts off networking?
2.    If          2. If this is the root of your procrastination problem, what options have you got for solving it? For instance, can you delegate it? Could you get a coach to help you overcome your inner obstacles such as shyness?

Tip 3 is also about YOU and what’s IMPORTANT to you
  1. For instance, if getting that item on your list done means stepping out of your comfort zone (e.g. talking to new people or learning a new piece of software) and being in your comfort zone is important to you, you’ll probably procrastinate.
  2. To get something done you sometimes have to make ADVENTURE more important than being in your comfort zone!
  3. What do you need to make important to get your task done?

Tip 4 is about how YOU THINK and what you BELIEVE
  1. What are you thinking about that task on your list that is putting you off doing it? For example, do you imagine ‘It will be boring!’ or ‘It will be difficult.’? Are you worried that you’ll have to speak to someone who is difficult to get on with? Are you afraid you’ll make a mistake?
  2. What could you think/do that would help you change your thoughts/emotions?
For instance, could you find a way to make the task fun to complete? How could you make it easier to finish?

Tip 5 is about YOUR SKILLS
  1. You may be lacking some skills or knowledge to complete the task which could be influencing you to procrastinate. Is there a skills/knowledge gap you need to bridge? For instance: how to get the best out of difficult people; how to sell a product, service or idea; where to start with completing the task; how to present impactfully; how to make small talk in social situations; how to manage your emotions so that you don’t procrastinate; how to manage your time better…
  2. How can you bridge that gap? Getting a Life or Business coach could be one way.

Tip 6 is about what YOU DO or your BEHAVIOUR
  1. We all have a strategy for doing what we do and getting the results that we get. We have strategies for everything – making decisions, falling in love, buying something, you name it, we have a strategy for it. Often we don’t know what it is because we do it without even thinking. If you are a great procrastinator, you probably have a fantastic strategy for it!
  2. For instance, do you allow people to interrupt you (even ‘train’ them to do it without realising that’s what you’ve done) so that your time is too fractured to get anything important done?
  3. What are you doing to stop yourself getting things done? What can you do to start yourself?

The 7th Tip is about YOUR ENVIRONMENT and YOUR RESOURCES
Could you be procrastinating because:
  1. You don’t have the right environment to help you get that task done? For instance, is your desk tidy enough for you?
  1. You are missing some resources you need to help you get that task done or those resources need updating? For instance, is your computer too slow? /Do you need to delegate the task to someone else? Or do you need some expert advice? If you’re the top boss or you’re working for yourself you may you need someone to be ACCOUNTABLE to, like a Life or Business Coach.
  2. Beware of EXCUSES like, ‘I’ll send out my newsletter when I’ve got a fabulous design’ or ‘I’ll go networking when my business cards are printed’!

We’ll be running a workshop on finding more time in your day and overcoming procrastination on Wednesday March 28th ,at the British Racing School near Newmarket and 20 minutes drive from Cambridge, called TIME to PROFIT. Business Success – Creating a ‘No-Fail’ Zone

"Madeleine Morgan The Confidence Building Business Coach"

Part of creating business success or a ‘no-fail’ zone in your business is to keep your focus on your goals rather than the obstacles in the way or the next fire that is lit under you.

Here are some questions that Tim Gale and I ask ourselves (and answer!) regularly when we meet to plan the Accountability Club, and when we work on our individual businesses, that help us to make them grow and we thought you’d find them useful too:

•    What can I do to keep focussed on my goals and make them fun to achieve?
•    Who do I need to share them with so they can support me? (family, friends, mastermind group, my employees and suppliers?)
•    What is the most important activity I can do today to help me reach my goals?
•    From my To Do list, what can I delegate/automate/outsource or stop doing today that will help me reach my goals quicker?
•
If you haven’t already taken advantage of these, here’s a few things that will also benefit you:

We wish you fun and success with your business this week,

Madeleine and Tim

Top 21 Ways to Find Hidden Money in Your Business – Number 10: Time Management

We all know that, in business, Time is Money. Yet how much do you actually track where your time is going?

Are you planning your time so that you get to the Urgent and Important tasks that really move your business forward or do you get to the end of the day and realise you’ve frittered your time away?

If you really thought of time as money you’d find out wouldn’t you, in the same way that if money was disappearing from your bank account you’d definitely investigate why and where it was going.

Time management is often really emotion management in disguise. For instance, how often do you put off a task that you think will be boring or difficult?

What will you do to find that £25k – £100k’s worth of time in your business?

Top 21 Ways to Find Hidden Money in Your Business – Number 8: Uniqueness

Unless you’re very lucky, there are probably tens and sometimes hundreds of competitors in your market. So what’s special about you, your product/service or the way you do business that gives you an edge over your competition and makes you stand out from the crowd in a way that your customers really care about?
For instance Domino Pizza gave themselves the edge with a powerful and appealing promise – if we don’t deliver your pizza within half an hour, we’ll give it to you for free!

One thing that makes The Accountability Club stand out from other business development coaching, mentoring and training is that Tim and I have very different personalities, skill sets, experience and ways of doing things. Tim is very direct, hones in arrow like on the next thing that will make the biggest difference to your business, simplifies things, gifted and hugely experienced at sales and is very energetic.

I’m skilled at building people’s confidence, helping them get rid of inner blocks, providing constructive feedback, stimulating creative ideas and planning interactive personal and business development training. We both bring a lot of experience of building successful businesses and love to work in a way that’s fun for everyone.
We work in a way that gets the best out of each other and our clients benefit from our wider range of approaches, knowledge, skills and experience than one coach can provide.

“Tim Gale and Madeleine Morgan coaching together make a powerful duo, with contrasting styles that complement one another beautifully.  With often overlapping skills, their individual approaches couldn’t be more different yet the compelling coupling of them working together is dynamite. I’m better prepared for sales conversations and meetings, with more tools in my armoury to draw upon, which means that my conversion rate of prospects into clients has doubled.”
Isobel Read, Business Owner, Virtuosa VA, Suffolk

What will make your business stand out from the crowd? Don’t be so modest – make sure that your prospects and clients know about it!
